OUR PROGRAMS

GYP at a Conference
GYP has many programs to support the local community,
and to build social, horticultural and professional skills.
The Farm Stand is open on Saturdays in the summer, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, at Ploughshares Nursery. We sell the fruit, vegetables, eggs, and other homemade products like soap and lip balm from the GYP farm. |
Kids' Garden Class is a fun, organized event, done for children throughout the community. This activity gives them knowledge of fruit and vegetables coupled with the exciting time of playing outside. They have their own boxes in our community garden where they get to take care of their own plants. |
Kids' Cooking Class lets kids cook their own food, with the supervision of facilitators, and teaches them how to maintain good hygiene. They walk away with a good sense of culinary skills and nutrition. We use food gathered from the farm whenever possible and focus on healthy ways of preparing foods. |
Adult Cooking Class focuses on specific themes, like baked goods or soups. It teaches adults the fine line between routine cooking and more advanced culinary skills. Using seasonal fruits and vegetables in class is always a priority. |
The Family Feast is a gathering of people in the community that brings together many diverse cultures while cooking a great meal. FEAST stands for Families Eating and Sharing Traditions. Each month we focus on a different culture and prepare representative foods together while learning about the specific culture. |
Family Health Night is an event that collectively teaches people about their health and how to improve it. Each session focuses on a different topic such as diabetes, stress management, natural cold remedies, and healthy dieting. |
Attending Gatherings and Conferences is a fun, educational way for our youth team to collaborate with other teens and organizations that work with food and farming, while at the same time expanding our knowledge of health and nutrition issues. We always come away inspired! Some conferences we have participated in are Rooted In Community, Bioneers, Community Food Security Coalition, and Growing Food and Justice Gathering. |
Job Training is a weekly activity that GYP members do at work, facilitated by their adult leaders. The focus here is to develop our job skills like communication, public speaking, and prepare ourselves for the job world beyond APC. |
